Movements of Human Trafficking
- The
first manifested itself from 1992 and
involved Asian women, especially from the Philippines and Thailand. In
1993, a second wave consisted of South American women, the
majority of whom originated from the Dominican Republic and Colombia. A
third wave, also commencing in 1993, came from Africa, predominantly
from Ghana and Nigeria.(Impe, 2000)
- And since 1994 the largest share of trafficked
women appears to comprise Central and Eastern European nationals, such as
Hungarian, Polish, Czech, Russian,Romanian, Albanian, Ukrainian and
Latvian women. In recent years there has been growing
concern about the increasing number of women who are trafficked
for sexual exploitation to countries of the European
Union. (Impe, 2000)
